Description
This light-filled ground floor apartment in the historic San Telmo neighbourhood is a piece of Buenos Aires history, beautifully remodelled to suit contemporary living.
The building dates from 1898, and is in the classic colonial style of the neighbourhood – Buenos Aires’ oldest. The address is within six blocks from Plaza de Mayo in one direction, and Plaza Dorrego – the heart of San Telmo – in the other. It’s also a short walk from Puerto Madero, the city’s newest neighborhood.
Within walking distance are museums, art galleries, cafes, bars, fine restaurants, live music and tango venues, clothing and leather boutiques and many historical sites. The nearby streets are filled with typical local businesses like handmade pasta stores, green grocers, cafes and antique stores. It’s also close to Buenos Aires’ oldest fresh food market, where you’ll find some of the city’s best ingredients and food products.
The building itself boasts a marble tiled corridor leading to a leafy atrium, beyond which is the entrance to the apartment. The light-filled apartment, with its twelve-foot ceilings, is nestled in the centre of the block, where noise from the street is barely heard.
Perfect for a couple or a single person, the apartment is divided into two sections. First, the open plan kitchen and dining, with its glass roof that fills the place with sunlight; and then the lounge room and study, with stairs leading to the bedroom mezzanine. French windows separate the two parts of the house.
The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, microwave oven, gas stove and oven, and ample storage space. It comes complete with plenty of cooking equipment, glassware, crockery and cutlery. A kitchen island houses the double sink.
The large, rustic timber dining table seats up to twelve diners. There is a small visitors’ bathroom off the dining room.
The lounge room boasts two sofas, a television and DVD. The floor is decorated with a hand-woven rug typical of those made in the northwest of Argentina.
The study has two desks and plenty of shelf space to store books and other belongings. There is wifi internet throughout the apartment, as well as a fixed telephone line.
The main bathroom, complete with bath, shower, toilet and bidet is under the bedroom. Next to it, stairs lead up to the mezzanine, with its ample walk-in wardrobe/dressing room and double bedroom. There is plenty of storage space.
